Subset is one of the best pop bands to come out of Texas in the last 5 years, and are going to be one of the few that mean something in 5 more.
Lindsey and Nathan formed Subset in February '99 by releasing their 7 inch "Circuitis" single after going to highschool together in Dallas, and playing in numerous Austin bands since 1993. At the time, the lineup included Nathan's brother Joel, playing keyboards, and a drum machine named Justin. At the record release party, Silver Scooter drummer Tom Hudson heard the band, liked it and joined. Tom's addition, however, led to a fight with, and the departure of, long time drum machine Justin. Shortly thereafter, Joel moved to Dallas and Subset has stayed with the core three piece that still exists today.
In 1999, the band was featured on two compilations, "Bands that Begin with 'S'" on Sweatbox records and "Repository of Fun!" on Animatronic Records.
The end of 1999 found Subset in the studio with Scott Garred, also in Silver Scooter, behind the board. These sessions turned into "Overpass". Recorded entirely on 8 track, "Overpass" is the band's full-length debut. With an emphasis on melodically strong pop songs and ragged rockers, this 13 song album captures the group's diverse sound.
